The reactions of arenesulphonyl azides with indole and with 1-methylindole

Abstract

Heating indole with arenesulphonyl azides yields 2-arylsulphonyliminoindolines; similar treatment of 1-methylindole affords mainly the 2-arylsulphonylimino-1-methylindolines with, as minor products, the 3-arylsulphonyl-aminoindoles. In the presence of pyridine, 2-arylsulphonylimino-3-diazoindolines are formed.
