The meliacins (limonoids). Some transformations and interconversions of the meliacins

Abstract

The meliacins containing a bicyclo[3,3,1]nonane nucleus have been related to the gedunin–khivorin group by the partial synthesis of mexicanolide from 7-deacetoxy-7-oxokhivorin. 7-Deacetylisogedunin has been converted into 7-oxogedunin; this conversion, together with a previous preparation of isogedunin from khivorin, represents a formal conversion of khivorin into gedunin. A number of new conversion products of the meliacins have been prepared and characterised.
