The structure and synthesis of 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-6-methylphenyl 3-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl ether (LL-V125α), a fungal diaryl ether

Abstract

A fungal diaryl ether, LL-V125α, has been identified as 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-6-methylphenyl 3-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl ether (4), contrary to a previous suggestion. This assignment has been confirmed by synthesis. A number of modifications of the Ullmann diaryl ether synthesis have been investigated.
