N-(2-Methyl-4,6-diphenyl-1-pyridinio)anilides undergo ready photochemical dissociation into 2-methyl-4,6-di-phenylpyridine and the corresponding nitrenes. The subsequent transformations of the nitrene do not allow unambiguous establishment of its electronic configuration.
