Resonance fluorescence and Raman spectra of gaseous sulphur

Abstract

The Raman spectrum of gaseous S2 at 718 cm–1 is reported. A resonance fluorescence series of gaseous 32S2 excited by the 5145 Å Ar+ laser line is analyzed in detail. Excitation is in the 4–21 band of the B3ΣuX3Σg system. Franck–Condon factors have been calculated from RKR potential curves and they are confirmed experimentally by the observed relative intensities in the fluorescence series.
