Determination by the mass spectrometric Knudsen cell method of the atomization energies of the molecules PO and PO2

Abstract

The dissociation energy of PO(g), D°0(PO)= 593.0 ± 8 kJ mol–1 has been measured thermochemically. This result supports the value for D°0(PO) obtained from the predissociation in the D2Π state of PO, D°0(PO)⩽ 593 kJ mol–1 and strongly suggests that this predissociation is an exact one. The atomization energy of PO2(g), has been determined to be D°0(PO2)= 1086.2 ± 11 kJ mol–1 and is shown to be consistent with spectroscopic data for this molecule.
