Rates of charge exchange of Ar+ with diatomic molecules

Abstract

The latest form of an apparatus for studying ion-molecule reactions in a rapidly-flowing gas stream is described. Earlier results on the attachment reactions N+2→ N+4 in nitrogen and Ar+→Ar+2 in argon are repeated and extended and the most recent data shown. Rate coefficients are given for charge exchange at thermal energies between Ar+ and N2, O2, CO and NO.
