Kinetics of the oxidation of formic acid by aquomanganese(III) ions in aqueous perchlorate media

Abstract

The kinetics of the slow oxidation of formic acid by aquomanganese(III) ions in aqueous perchlorate media show that intermediate complexes are present; three complexes are postulated to explain the variation of rate with acidity, and enthalpies and entropies of formation are found for two of them. Energies and entropies of activation are calculated for the decomposition of all three complexes, and these are discussed in relation to the structure of the transition states.
