Catalysis by metal cations. Part III. Kinetics of elimination of chloride ion from cis-chlorobis(ethylenediamine)glycinato-N-cobalt(III)

Abstract

The pH-dependence of the rate of loss of chloride ion from cis-chlorobis(ethylenediamine)glycinato-N-cobalt(III) indicates weak SN2 character involving participation of the free carboxylate group of the unidentate glycinato-ligand. Weakly basic anions mildly assist the reaction, the effect increasing with the base strength of the anion. At pH 5 the reaction is greatly assisted by Pb2+ ions and shows stronger SN2 character.
