Allylammonium complexes of palladium(II)

Abstract

Three new allylammonium complexes of palladium(II) are reported: (CH2:CH·CH2·NH3+)2[PdCl4]2–, a salt in which there is no covalent bonding between the allylammonium and tetrachloropalladate(II) ions, [Pd(CH2:CH·CH2·NH3)Cl3] and Na[Cl2PdCl2PdCl(CH2:CH·CH2·NH3Cl)] in which the allylammonium groups are co-ordinated by palladium–olefin bonds. The i.r. and Raman spectra of [Pd(CH2:CH·CH2·NH3)Cl3] indicate considerable mixing of the C[double bond, length half m-dash]C stretching and CH2 deformation modes, although the C[double bond, length half m-dash]C streching mode appears to make a slightly greater contribution to the band at 1536 cm–1 and the CH2 deformation to that at 1270 cm–1. The electronic spectrum of [Pd(CH2:CH·CH2·NH3)Cl3] has four bands in the region 20,000–38,500 cm–1, all with molar extinction coefficients of 210 or less, which are assigned to dd transitions.
