Spectral and magnetic properties and crystal structure of dichloro{N-[methoxy(6-methyl-2-pyridyl)methyl]benzothiazolin-2-ylideneimine}-cobalt(II)

Abstract

The title complex has been synthesised and its spectral and magnetic properties and X-ray structure determined. The structure was solved from diffractometer data by Patterson and Fourier methods and refined by least-squares techniques to R 4·4% for 1234 independent reflections. The crystals are monoclinic, space-group P21/n, with unit-cell dimensions : a= 9·76(1), b= 19·61(1), c= 9·18(1)Å, β= 99·1(2)°, Z= 4. The co-ordination around cobalt is tetrahedral and involves two chlorine atoms (Co–Cl 2·224, 2·213 Å) and the imine and pyridine nitrogen atoms (Co–N 1·994, 2·046 Å) of the ligand.
