Dinitrogen trioxide. Part XI. The electronic spectrum of dinitrogen trioxide

Abstract

The visible spectrum of dinitrogen trioxide has been measured in a number of different solvents. In all cases an absorption maximum was observed in the red region of the spectrum. The various values for εmax. fell within a narrow range except for aromatic solvents when the values were significantly higher and could be correlated with the electron releasing properties of the solvent. The near-u.v. spectrum of gaseous dinitrogen trioxide and its solutions in n-hexane and water are reported.
