Bridge derivatives of CC′-dimethyl-4,5-dicarba-nido-hexaborane(8)

Abstract

Compounds having the general formula Me3MIVC2Me2B4H5(MIV= Si or Ge), Me2BC2Me2B4H5, and Me2ClSiC2-Me2B4H5 have been prepared by the reaction of the C2Me2B4H5(1–) ion with Me3SiCl, Me3GeBr, Me2BCl, and Me2SiCl2 respectively. Spectral evidence suggests that the Si, Ge, and B atoms are bonded to two adjacent basal boron atoms in a three-centre bond. Of the four bridge compounds prepared only Me3GeC2Me2B4H5 isomerises to the terminal isomer.
