Photo-induced insertion of bis-π-cyclopentadienyltungsten into aromatic carbon–hydrogen bonds

Abstract

Irradiation of benzene solutions of the dihydride (π-C5H5)2WH2 with a mercury lamp (366 nm) gives the phenyl hydride (π-C5H5)2WHPh in high yield and further evidence suggests the reaction proceeds via tungstenocene (π-C5H5)2W as an intermediate.
