Coproporphyrin-III from protoporphyrin-IX

Abstract

Manipulation of the vinyl side-chains of the readily available protoporphyrin-IX dimethyl ester (2) allows the synthesis of coproporphyrin-III tetramethyl ester (1) in an overall yield of 37%.
