A novel 9-vertex metallocarborane containing a monocarbon carborane ligand

Abstract

The base degradation of orange (π-C5H5)CoIII(π-B10C2H12) has been found to effect a polyhedral contraction reaction to give [(π-C5H5)CoIII(π-B7CH8)]; this reaction constitutes the first reported example of a small metallocarborane formed by the removal of a carbon atom and three boron atoms from a larger, parent metallocarborane.
