General method for the synthesis of β-lactam antibiotics substituted α to the β-lactam carbonyl

Abstract

A general method for the synthesis of β-lactam antibiotics substituted α to the β-lactum carbonyl is demonstrated by the reaction of the appropriate Schiff base-stabilized anion with a variety of reactive halide reagents.
