Calcium ion binding to uncharged sugars: crystal structures of calcium bromide complexes of lactose, galactose, and inositol

Abstract

Interactions of calcium ions with uncharged sugars lead to complexes in which the calcium ions are surrounded by square-antiprism co-ordination shells composed of water molecules and sugar hydroxyl groups.
