Photodecarboxylation of dicarboxylic acids in the presence of iron(III) chloride

Abstract

The photo-oxidative decarboxylation of succinic, glutaric, and adipic acids with FeCl3 yields as principal products, β-chloropropionic aicd γ-butyrolactone, and δ-chlorovaleric acid, respectively.
