Visual estimation and spectrophotometric determination of zinc in potable waters with 4-(2′-thiazolylazo)resorcinol

Abstract

A rapid method is described for the visual estimation and spectrophotometric determination of zinc in potable waters by using 4-(2′-thiazolylazo)-resorcinol. A single addition of a reagent mixture that incorporates buffer, chelating reagent and masking agent is possible. The method is more rapid than existing methods and satisfactory agreement with values from atomic-absorption spectrophotometry is obtained for the range of values normally encountered in potable waters.
