Vacuum u.-v. spectra of transient molecules and radicals. Part 2.—As2 and Sb2

Abstract

Vacuum u.-v. absorption spectra of the metastable molecules As2 and Sb2 have been observed following the flash photolysis of AsH3 and SbH3 respectively. Seven new electronic systems are reported for As2 and five for Sb2. Rydberg series leading to the first ionization potential have been identified and yield the values I.P. (As2)= 10.1 eV, I.P. (Sb2)= 9.3 eV.
