A simple technique for the measurement of rates of deactivation of N2A3Σ +u

Abstract

By subjecting gas mixtures containing NO, at low pressures, and N2 to a short duration flash of ultra-violet radiation, it was demonstrated from the delayed NOγ-emission that N2A3Σ+u is produced in the quenching of NOC2Π(v= 0) by N2. The rate coefficient for removal of N2A3Σ+u by H2O was recorded as 5.5 (±3.0)× 10–14 cm3 molecule–1 s–1.
