Studies in mycological chemistry. Part XXIX. Total synthesis of (±)-O-methylaversin [(±)-tri-O-methylversicolorin B]: the structure of aversin

Abstract

An unequivocal synthesis of (±)-O-methylaversin [(±)-tri-O-methylversicolorin B] is described. Aversin is shown to be 2,3,3a,12a-tetrahydro-4-hydroxy-6,8-dimethoxyanthra[2,3-b]furo[3,2-d]furan-5,10-dione. New syntheses of 1,3,6,8-tetramethoxyanthraquinone and tri-O-methylemodin are also described.
