Seco-steroids. Part I. Some 2-(2-hydroxyethyl)cyclopentanols

Abstract

The two stereoisomeric 2-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)-1-methyl-5-oxocyclopentane-1-acetic acids have each been reduced to a lactone and a hydroxy-acid. These products have been further reduced to give the four corresponding (±)-hydroxyethylcyclopentanols required for biological evaluation. A number of related diols have also been prepared for comparison.
