Dimethylcarbodi-imide. Improved synthesis, cyclic trimer, and reaction with α-hydroxy-esters

Abstract

Both an improved synthesis and the chemical and physical properties of the title compound are reported. The compound spontaneously polymerizes to give hexamethylisomelamine and reacts with the esters of α-hydroxy acids to give 2-methylimino-3-methyloxazolidin-4-ones.
