The following anthraquinones have been found in the leaves of D. purpurea; digitolutein and 4-hydroxydigitolutein, digitopurpone (1,4,8-trihydroxy-2-methylanthraquinone), 1,6-dihydroxy-3-methylanthraquinone (phomarin) and its 6-methyl ether, and isochrysophanol (1,8-dihydroxy-2-methylanthraquinone).
