Studies in ferrocene derivatives. Part XIV. Solvolytic reactions of some ferrocenydihalogenocyclopropanes

Abstract

The solvolytic reactions of some ferrocenydihalogenocyclopropanes in ethanol and in aqueous systems are describes. In the main the products are the results of solvent quenching of an allyl carbonium ion formed by opening of the cyclopropane ring. No conclusive evidence for specificity in the ring-opening was found, although the results suggested that in the disrotatory ring-opening the ferrocenyl group moves outwards.
