Steroids. Part XIV. Transformations of 8α,9α- and 9α,11α-epoxylanostanes and related compounds

Abstract

3β-Acetoxy-8,9-epoxy-5α,8α-lanostane reacts with boron trifluoride–ether complex in benzene to give 3β-acetoxy-5α-lanosta-7,9(11)-diene. Under similar conditions 3β-acetoxy-9, 11 α-epoxy-5α-lanostane gives a mixture of 3β-acetoxy-5α9β-lanostan-11-one and 3β-acetoxy-8-methyl-18-nor-5α,8α,14β-lanosta-9(11),13(17)-diene. Treatment of 3β-acetoxy-5α-lanost-9(11)-ene with N-bromoacetamide and perchloric acid gives 3β-acetoxy-7α-bromo-5α-lanost-8-en-11-one.
