Derivatives of 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone. Part II

Abstract

Several 4-[β-(hydroxyaryloxy)ethyl] ethers (I; R1 or R3= OH) of 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone have been made by condensing 4-(β-bromoethoxy)-2-hydroxybenzophenone with monomethyl ethers of quinol or catechol derivatives and demethylating the products obtained. Alternatively, the monomethyl ethers of the dihydric phenols were β-bromoethylated, demethylated, and condensed with 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone. Further instances of polymorphism in dihydroxybenzophenone derivatives have been noted.
