The dehydrogenation of various αβ-unsaturated 3-oxoergostane derivatives with 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano 1,4-benzoquinone has been studied. The dehydrogenation of ergosterone gave ergosta-4,6,8(14)-tetraen-3-one.
