Reaction of 2,3-epoxy-3-(2-nitrophenyl)propiophenone(2-nitrochalcone epoxide) with hydrogen chloride

Abstract

The reaction of 2,3-epoxy-3-(2-nitrophenyl)propiophenone(2-nitrochalcone epoxide) with ethereal hydrogen chloride gives 6-chloro-1,3-dihydroxy-2-phenylquinolin-4(1H)-one; the corresponding unchlorinated product is obtained in the presence of quinol.
