Dienyl complexes of transition metals. Part V. Preparation and reactions of tricarbonyl(cycloheptatriene)manganese tetrafluoroborate and related compounds

Abstract

Cycloheptadiene with decacarbonyldimanganese yields tricarbonyl(cycloheptadienyl)manganese, converted by hydride abstraction into tricarbonyl(cycloheptatriene) manganese tetrafluoroborate. Additions of a range of anions to this salt are descibed. The dienyl complex adds acetylium ion but the product decomposes to the metal-free acetylcycloheptadiene on hydrolysis. Replacement of one carbonyl group is effected by irradiation of the dienyl complex in the presence of triphenylphosphine.
