Spin traps. A cautionary note

Abstract

Use of nitrones and nitroso-compounds as spin traps is complicated by the ease with which they react with anions to give amino-oxy-anions which are invariably oxidised to some extent to nitroxides. Several polymeric nitroxides have been prepared in this way.
