An improvement of the Chugaev reaction with tertiary alcohols

Abstract

The potassium xanthate salts of some tertiary alcohols have been prepared and pyrolysed to yield olefins. The overall olefinic yields are markedly better than those obtained from the corresponding S-methyl xanthates (the classical Chugaev procedure) and the product distributions in most cases are almost identical.
