The fragmentation of the 2-spiro-2′-(1′,3′-dithian) derivatives of a selection of 3-oxo-steroids and of the corresponding 19-nor-steroids is reported. The results provide a simple technique for the differentiation between 10-methyl- and 19-nor-steroids.
