Brønsted coefficient for the nucleophilic attack of hydroxamate ions on di-isopropyl phosphorochloridate

Abstract

The Brønsted coefficient for the reaction of di-isopropyl phosphorochloridate with a series of four hydroxamate ions has been determined. The implication of its value, 0·21, inasmuch as it is related to charge transfer in the transition state for the phosphylation of a nucleophile, is discussed in relation to the product selectivity with an ambident nucleophile, 2-aminoethanol.
