The preparation and spectroscopic properties of 2,2,4,5-tetramethylhex-4-en-3-one

Abstract

The title compound when prepared by the reaction of pivaloyl chloride and 2-methylbut-2-ene in the presence of stannic chloride contains impurities inseparable by preparative gas chromatography. A purer product is obtained by pyrolysis of 2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-4-diazohexan-3-one.
