Unusual shielding effects in some 2-phenylsulphonamido-NN-dialkylanilinium ions

Abstract

The resonance of the proton ortho to the phenylsulphonamido group in the n.m.r. spectra of certain 2-phenylsulphonamido-NN-dialkylanilinium ions is displaced to high field, an effect attributed to the magnetic anisotropy of the aromatic ring in the phenylsulphonyl group.
