Cyclic inorganic compounds. Part XI. Fluorination of tris- and tetrakis-dimethylaminochlorotriphosphonitriles

Abstract

Preparation of the cis- and trans-isomers of both 1,3,5-trifluoro-1,3,5-trisdimethylaminotriphosphonitrile (VI) and (VII) and 1,3-difluoro-1,3,5,5-tetrakisdimethylaminotriphosphonitrile (VIII) and (IX) from the corresponding chlorides is described. Reaction of the geminal trichloro-trisamino-derivative (III) with antimony trifluoride in 1,2-dichloroethane occurs preferentially at the amine-substituted phosphorus atom giving a monofluoride (XI), but at higher temperatures the trifluoride (X) is obtained. Structures are proposed on the basis of 1H and 19F n.m.r. spectra and g.l.c. retention times.
