Reactions of low-valent metal complexes with fluorocarbons. Part XIX. Bis(t-butyl isocyanide)palladium and tetrakis(trimethyl phosphite or dimethylphenylarsine)palladium

Abstract

Reaction between Pd(ButNC)2 and CF2:CFX (X = Cl or Br) affords (ButNC)2Pd(CF:CF2)X. Similarly, Pd(AsMe2Ph)4 yields (PhMe2As)2Pd(CF:CF2)Cl with chlorotrifluoroethylene. Hexafluoropropene reacts with Pd(ButNC)2 to form unstable (ButNC)2[graphic omitted]F·CF3; whereas (CF3)2C:C(CN)2 gives stable (ButNC)2[graphic omitted](CN)2. Corresponding reactions with PdL4[L = AsMe2Ph or P(OMe)3] give L2[graphic omitted](CN)2. Trimethyl phosphite is displaced from the latter compound by PMePh2, PEt3, and (Ph2PCH2)2 to form the respective L2[graphic omitted](CN)2 complexes. Hexafluoro-acetone and -isopropylideneamine react with Pd(ButNC)2 to form (ButNC)2[graphic omitted] (X = O or NH). Similarly, Pd(AsMe2Ph)4 reacts with (CF3)2C:NH to form (PhMe2As)2[graphic omitted]H, whereas Pd(PPh3)4 gives (Ph3P)2[graphic omitted]H.
