Solvent extraction studies. Part VIII. The partition of alkali-metal and ammonium thiocyanates between tri-n-butyl phosphate and liquid ammonia

Abstract

The partition of alkali-metal and ammonium thiocyanates between liquid ammonia and tri-n-butyl phosphate has been measured at –40 °C. The results are compared with those on the distribution of alkali-metal halides between tri-n-butyl phosphate and aqueous solution; the differences between these two systems are discussed in terms of ionic solvation processes in the inorganic phases. The co-extraction of ammonia with the salts, and the salting-out of thiocyanates by ammonium salts, have also been studied.
