Arylamine co-ordination complexes. Part V. Electronic spectra of complexes of nickel(II) perchlorate and halide, with substituted anilines

Abstract

The diffuse reflectance electronic spectra are discussed for complexes of the type trans-[Ni(amine)4X2](amine = substituted anilines, X = ClO4, Br, or I). At room temperature splittings of the first spin-allowed electronic absorption band are recorded, and at liquid-nitrogen temperatures some examples of splittings of the second dd band are also observed. The axial crystal-field parameters Dqz, for the perchlorate and iodide ions, are not constant throughout the series of complexes but generally decrease as the planar fields 10Dqxy, due to the aniline ligands, increase.
