Kinetics of substitution reactions of halogenopentacarbonyl compounds of rhenium and manganese

Abstract

The kinetics of the monosubstitution reaction of halogenopentacarbonylrhenium, Re(CO)5X (X = Cl, Br, or I) by triphenylphosphine are reported and compared with previous data for the analogous manganese series. Contrary to previous reports of the substitution of the rhenium series by bidentate ligands, the present work shows that both rate constants and activation energies fall in the same sequence with varying halogen as for the manganese series. In accord with the theoretical results of the preceding paper, the rhenium compounds are much less reactive than the manganese analogues.
