Mass spectrometry of organomercurials. Part II. Fragmentation of geminal bis(chloromercurio)-derivatives

Abstract

The mass spectra of 1,1-bis(chloromercurio)-2-methylpropene and 1,1-bis(chloromercurio)ethane show a high proportion of inorganic mercury-containing ions, including the mercury–mercury bonded species, Hg2Cl2+, Hg2Cl+, and Hg2+. The last two ions appear to be formed primarily by different processes for the two mercurials.
