Ultraviolet absorption spectra of iodide ions in aqueous gels

Abstract

Energies of absorption band maxima, Emax., and associated temperature coefficients, dEmax./dT, for the charge transfer-to-solvent band of iodide are compared for iodide in water and in aqueous agar gel states. The lack of sensitivity of the parameter to change in agar concentration and to the sol–gel transition is discussed with reference to the structure of water in the systems.
