The Mössbauer effect in tin(II) compounds. Part IX. The sign of the quadrupole coupling constants in a number of tin(II) materials

Abstract

The signs of the quadrupole coupling constants, eVzzQ, in the compounds NaSnF3, NaSn2F5, SnSO4, Sn(HCO2)2, Sn(AcO)2, and K2Sn(C2O4)2,H2O are all shown to be positive. This is discussed in terms of the interpretation of the quadrupole splitting data for these materials. Both covalent and point-charge arguments predict a negative value for eQ but neither approach can predict the magnitude of the quadrupole splitting in tin(II) materials.
