The biosynthetic interrelationships of fungal phenalenones

Abstract

Labelling studies with Penicillium herquei have shown that atrovenetin is incorporated into herqueinone via deoxyherqueinone, requiring sequential methylation and oxidation: norherqueinone is derived oxidatively from atrovenetin, but is not methylated to form herqueinone.
