Reaction of butyl-lithium with stable free radicals

Abstract

1,3-Bis(biphenyl-2,2′-diyl)-2-phenylallyl (DBPA)(I) and triphenylmethyl have been converted into their carbanion conjugate species by butyl-lithium; the reaction is Lewis-base catalysed, and a new role is ascribed to the kinetically involved Lewis base.
