A field method for the determination of zinc oxide fume in air
Abstract
A method is described for the determination of zinc oxide fume in industrial atmospheres at concentrations up to 20 mg m–3 of zinc oxide. The fume is collected on a filter and dissolved in acid, and the zinc is determined spectrophotometrically or visually with 4-(2′-thiazolylazo)resorcinol reagent. The apparatus used is simple and the time required for a determination is about 20 minutes. A dynamic method for the generation of atmospheres of zinc oxide is also described.
