Rotational analysis of bands of the B1Σ—X1Σ system of gaseous MgS

Abstract

The absorption spectrum of MgS has been observed for the first time, using a carbon tube furnace at about 2000°C. A search of the visible spectrum revealed only the single system, B1Σ—X1Σ already known in emission. Constants for 24Mg32S (cm–1) derived from the rotational analysis of six bands are as follows: [graphic ommitted]
